Time is an invaluable resource and it tops the chart of waste resource in Africa. I guess this is why business in the west are more successful and enduring than what we have in Africa. In the developed countries, time is money; this means a man's value is evaluated based on what he can produce on hourly basis. There was a popular analysis that either sleep or awake, Bill Gate makes 4 million dollars every passing day.
In America, an attorney earns $250-$300 dollars an hour. A garbage man earns $8 dollar for the same hour. This shows the value of each's input, they don't go late for appointments (as we do here), all events (government or private) starts at the exact schedule time frame. if you go to work late three times, you will be fired and replaced almost immediately without any apology.
In Africa we have accepted waste of time as a norm; we even call it 'Africa time'. This celebration of mediocrity is the reason we cannot compete favorably with developed countries, because the most valuable resources in the world God has given us to compete with is the least valuable to us. Let's set new standards for our lives and business. From all indication, the private sector is the only hope our nation has if we be able to compete favorable in the international market.
If the current public-private partnership can be continued, there is a ray of hope for us. Can you imagine, if every government worker gets serious with their jobs like bankers do, what a turnaround we'll experience in productivity. As we are in final days of the year, we need fresh inspiration.
let me share this verse with you as a motivational capsule, be guaranteed of a great you. It all start with you, Remember Mahatma Gandhi's profound statement, "be the change you wish to see in the world'". To round up this article "be yourself, but be your best self".
DREAM AGAIN THROUGH AN ANGEL'S EYES
It's not too late........................... the angel said
Even though the world's a mess
Even though you are not that young
Even though you have made mistakes and have been afraid
It's not too late................................
And then I saw the world through the angel's eye
I saw the colors I could paint
The bridges I could build
The lives that I could touch
The dreams that could still come true
And it became very clear to me.......
That is not too late.
